8th Annual StorySki at Mad River Glen, Hosted by Stark Mountain Foundation on February 21st, 2026.

Fayston, VT— The beloved Stark Mountain Foundation tradition of StorySki continues as the 8th annual event invites young skiers and their families to enjoy a unique reading of I Wish It Would Snow by Sarah Dillard on Saturday, February 21st at Mad River Glen from 10:30AM-2:30PM. Literary adventurers will ski through the woods of Mad River Glen from page to page, immersing themselves in an unforgettable journey of adventure and imagination.

Inspired by the original StoryWalk project from Montpelier’s Kellogg-Hubbard Library, the StorySki features a New England winter classic spread across a snowy trail, combining literacy with outdoor adventure in a celebration of the season.

This year’s event will feature “I Wish it Would Snow!” a picture book written and illustrated by former Stark Mountain Foundation board member Sarah Dillard and published by Simon & Schuster. Follow one bunny’s journey from wishing for snow to being buried in a blizzard! After a wild ride through the flakes and a cozy night at home, Bunny wakes up ready to play—only to find that his snowy wonderland is disappearing. Join us on the trail to see what happens next!

Sarah Dillard is the author and illustrator of several books, including the Mouse Scout Series and the Extraordinary Warren books. She lives near the base of Mad River Glen.

“I Wish it Would Snow!” came about through my love of Stark Mountain,” Dillard says. “It is exciting and gratifying to be able to share the book with readers and skiers on the very mountain that inspired it.” Learn more about Sarah Dillard at www.sarahdillard.com.

StorySki celebrates community, the outdoors, and the joy of reading—all values central to the mission of the Stark Mountain Foundation. Whether you’re a first-timer or a seasoned StorySki participant, this year’s event promises the same magic and wonder that has made it a staple Stark Mountain experience!

The Big Picture and Phantom Theater are thrilled to present The Gold Rush- one of the greatest and most classic silent movies, accompanied with piano music by Randall Pierce. Sunday February 22, at 4 PM **Free for members Time & Location Feb 22, 2026, 4:00 PM – 8:00 PM Big Picture Theater & Cafe, 48 Carroll Rd, Waitsfield, VT 05673, USA About the event The Big Picture and Phantom Theater are thrilled to present The Gold Rush- one of the greatest and most classic silent movies, accompanied with piano music by Randall Pierce. A delightful blend of slapstick humor, poignant emotion, and social commentary, The Gold Rush encapsulates Chaplin's strengths as a writer, director, and star. While on a mission to find gold in Alaska, a lone prospector and Big Jim, a gold seeker, take refuge in a cabin during a blizzard. Chaplin - proving his belief that tragedy and ridicule are never far apart - set out to transform tales of privation and horror into a comedy. He decided that his familiar tramp figure should become a gold prospector, joining the mass of brave optimists to face all the hazards of cold, starvation, solitude, and the occasional incursion of a grizzly bear. Randal Pierce is a composer and pianist living in Burlington, VT. He has been commissioned to write scores for silent films by The Flynn Theater, The Vermont International Film Festival, Burlington City Arts, The Discover Jazz Festival, The Green Mountain Film Festival and Big Picture Theater. Randal is also a music director for UVM’s Department of Theater and Dance and performs and writes for theater workshops, performances and recordings in NYC. Mad River Valley Arts

March 3 @ 1:00 pm

ZERO CELSIUS takes place at Mad Arts and Sugarbush Resort, and gathers artists who explore the textures, tensions, and transformations of winter. Bringing together sculpture, installation, sound, photography, and digital media, ZERO CELSIUS examines winter as material, concept, and metaphor: crystalline, fleeting, and ecologically vital. The exhibition invites visitors to consider the fragility of snow in a changing world, to reconnect with winter’s wonder and silence, and to share their own stories and memories of a season both timeless and increasingly imperiled.

Lareau Farm

March 7 @ 9:00 am

Each and every organism leaves behind a trace of its presence, the history of its life written upon the landscape. We must only learn how to read their stories. This is a great class for anyone who wishes to deepen their experience with the natural world. All ages (children accompanied by an adult) are welcome. Registration is required! This event has a capacity of about 20 people, so attendees need to register ahead of time to secure their spot. Register at https://forms.gle/UJDEGqt9efr2JcN99. Mad River Valley Arts

March 14 @ 1:00 pm

ZERO CELSIUS takes place at Mad Arts and Sugarbush Resort, and gathers artists who explore the textures, tensions, and transformations of winter. From the hush of frozen landscapes to the volatility of a warming climate, the exhibition reflects on how the cold season shapes—and is reshaped by—human and environmental relationships.
Rockefeller Challenge

March 14 @ 4:00 pm

An event only to be found here on the slopes of Mad River Glen, the Rockefeller Challenge is an annual test of fearlessness and speed. Starting on the Practice Slope, competitors try to carry their speed down a designated race lane, through the base area and up the Rockefeller trail. Like the sport of ski jumping where the skier who goes the farthest wins, the person to makes it the furthest up the Rockefeller trail, is victorious and crowned a racing titan. Proceeds to benefit MRG Ski Club.

Online Registration

Field Limit: 100 competitors, all ages

Athlete Lift: Tentatively 4:20 pm

Event Begins: 4:30 pm

Other: Rockefeller and Racing Triple Crown shirts will be available for purchase at bib pickup on the day of the event. Clothing is required, no added weights, speedsuits, lycra or gravity enhancing devices!

The MRG Racing Triple Crown combines three celebrated legacy events and crowns an overall category champions!

    1. The storied Kandahar is MRG’s modern version of a full mountain ski race. It rewards those who can ski gates as well as terrain and conditions on the trail.
    2. The Dash For Cash is a new event that will pit racers head to head on a dual panel course with pro jump.
    3. The Rockefeller Challenge is a test of fearlessness and speed where competitors tuck straight downhill and glide uphill to find the skier who goes the furthest.

Combine and register for all three events and save!

A valid lift ticket or season pass is required. Lift ticket not included in the entry fee.

You must complete a registration for each family member who will be racing. Please log in below (if you are already in MRG’s system) or create a new account for each racer.

STAND UP FOR SAFETY WORKSHOPS

MRV Chamber Welcome Center

April 7 @ 10:00 am

In the Mad River Valley, we believe that everyone — whether they live here, work here, or visit — deserves to feel safe. To support that vision the chamber's is launching a new series of Stand Up for Safety workshops designed to help hospitality workers recognize and respond to situations that may threaten the safety or well-being of themselves, their co-workers, or their guests. These interactive sessions will equip front-line staff with practical tools to:
  • Recognize signs of harm, harassment, or exploitation
  • Respond appropriately and safely when concerns arise
  • Connect individuals in need with the right support services
The workshops are approachable, hands-on, and rooted in real-world hospitality settings — from restaurants and inns to shops and recreation businesses. While the curriculum is still being finalized, the goal is clear: to ensure the Mad River Valley remains a safe and welcoming place for all. The workshops are organized and facilitated by Anna Nassset Consulting. Upcoming Workshops will all take place at the MRV Chamber Welcome Center
  • January 22 - 10-11 am: Understanding DV, HT, and Stalking Explore how to identify and respond to domestic violence, human trafficking, and stalking in both customers and co-workers, and learn about available local and national resources.
  • April 7- 10-11 am: Sexual Assault Awareness Month Learn to recognize early warning signs of sexual assault, how to respond to disclosures, and how to connect survivors with resources and support.
  • August 5 - 10-11 am: Workplace Culture Discover how to build a supportive workplace culture where all employees feel safe and valued, through stories, exercises, and practical leadership strategies.
  • Back in October 22  GBV Bystander Training was offered We learned the basics of gender-based violence prevention, including the 4D’s of bystander intervention, and how to empower yourself and others to make a difference.
A Community Commitment “Hospitality is the backbone of the Mad River Valley’s economy and culture,” said Eric Friedman, Executive Director of the Mad River Valley Chamber of Commerce. “By giving our front-line staff the tools and confidence to recognize and respond to difficult situations, we’re not just protecting individuals — we’re strengthening the fabric of our community and ensuring the Valley remains a safe, welcoming place for everyone.” About Stand Up for Safety A collaboration between local businesses, resorts, and organizations committed to standing up to gender-based violence and fostering a culture of care in the Mad River Valley. For more information about the workshops, or to learn how your business can get involved, please contact [email protected] and/or visit www.madrivervalley.com/stand-up-for-safety

STAND UP FOR SAFETY WORKSHOPS

MRV Chamber Welcome Center

August 5 @ 10:00 am
