In some cases, there are coveted trophies that live permanently at MRG for all to admire.

All racers should register in the MRG Online Store.

Community Socrates Cafe: ” How Does the Passage of Time Affect Our Identity?”

Harwood Union High School Library

January 8 @ 5:30 am

Students from Harwood’s Harkness Leadership class will be hosting a community Socrates Café on Thursday, January 8th from 5:30 to 7:00 PM in the HU library. A Socrates Café is an opportunity for dialogue about timeless and timely questions that all human beings deal with. Rather than being a debate or a discussion, a Socrates Café is a dialogue where participants are encouraged to listen to and learn from one another. This form of discourse- and its focus on the search for knowledge- comes from the great philosopher Socrates, who observed that "Wisdom Begins in Wonder." These gatherings are open to all community members, regardless of age, experience, or background. Harwood students who are experienced in leading Socratic Dialogues will facilitate the discussions. Community members of all ages are invited, and refreshments will be provided. The question for the evening discussion is "How Does the Passage of Time Affect Our Identity?" For questions and more information, please contact Adam Sargent at [email protected].
Zero Celsius

Mad River Valley Arts

January 8 @ 8:00 am

ZERO CELSIUS takes place at Mad Arts and Sugarbush Resort, and gathers artists who explore the textures, tensions, and transformations of winter. From the hush of frozen landscapes to the volatility of a warming climate, the exhibition reflects on how the cold season shapes—and is reshaped by—human and environmental relationships. Bringing together sculpture, installation, sound, photography, and digital media, ZERO CELSIUS examines winter as material, concept, and metaphor: crystalline, fleeting, and ecologically vital. The exhibition invites visitors to consider the fragility of snow in a changing world, to reconnect with winter’s wonder and silence, and to share their own stories and memories of a season both timeless and increasingly imperiled.

Kandahar Mountain Race

January 31 @ 7:30 am

A race of a bygone era, the Kandahar channels the spirit of full mountain races that were once commonplace on the racing circuit and at MRG. The last version held in the 1980s began on Creamery, descended onto Moody’s, before taking on (Grand) Canyon. At the bottom of Canyon, racers went straight across Easy Way, over the cliff on One Way, and over S-Turn Cliff onto Lower Periwinkle and finished by the base of the Double. Whew! Our modern version is a bit more modest but will still reward those who can ski gates as well as terrain on the trail. The trail combination and exact set to get from the start to the finish are dependent on snow depth and conditions. Please see the race flyer (when available) for additional course details.

Details:

The MRG Racing Triple Crown combines three celebrated legacy events and crowns an overall category champions!

    1. The storied Kandahar is MRG’s modern version of a full mountain ski race. It rewards those who can ski gates as well as terrain and conditions on the trail.
    2. The Dash For Cash is a new event that will pit racers head to head on a dual panel course with pro jump.
    3. The Rockefeller Challenge is a test of fearlessness and speed where competitors tuck straight downhill and glide uphill to find the skier who goes the furthest.

Combine and register for all three events and save!

A valid lift ticket or season pass is required. Lift ticket not included in the entry fee.

Ages 10 & up as of 1/1/25. You must complete a registration for each family member who will be racing. Please log in below (if you are already in MRG’s system) or create a new account for each racer.

Mad River Valley Arts

March 25 @ 1:00 pm
