Family Tournament
January 4 @ 9:00 am
The Family Tournament originated as the Father-Son race and dates back to 1942 when it was originally held on the flanks of Mount Mansfield (Stowe). In its modern form, it is a race open to anyone who wants to participate. Racers complete a family-friendly GS course where a racer’s best time from two runs (attempts) is counted. The time is then added together with other family members (by blood relationship) in the following categories and prizes are awarded. In some cases, there are coveted trophies that live permanently at MRG for all to admire.
All racers should register in the MRG Online Store.
Family Tournament Race Schedule:
9:00 am – 10:00 am: course inspection/preview
10:00 am: Racing opens to anyone 7 years and under and all grandparents
10:30 am: Racing opens to all (FIFO)
1:30 pm: Race Closes
2:30 pm: Awards (location tbd)

Kandahar Mountain Race
January 31 @ 7:30 am

A race of a bygone era, the Kandahar channels the spirit of full mountain races that were once commonplace on the racing circuit and at MRG. The last version held in the 1980s began on Creamery, descended onto Moody’s, before taking on (Grand) Canyon. At the bottom of Canyon, racers went straight across Easy Way, over the cliff on One Way, and over S-Turn Cliff onto Lower Periwinkle and finished by the base of the Double. Whew! Our modern version is a bit more modest but will still reward those who can ski gates as well as terrain on the trail. The trail combination and exact set to get from the start to the finish are dependent on snow depth and conditions. Please see the race flyer (when available) for additional course details.
Details:
Registration:
Field Limit: 75 racers
Age requirement: 10 years old or older as of January 1st, 2026
Athlete Lift: Tentatively 7:30 am
Race Begins: Tentatively 8:00 am
Awards: by age group and gender
Disclaimer: Weather and conditions dependent, no refunds on entry fee in the event of cancellation. We reserve the right to change or modify any of the perimeters of the race including but not limited to start time, location, course, finish and awards in the interest of event security.
Proceeds from this event go to benefit the Mad River Glen Race Club and are non-refundable.
The MRG Racing Triple Crown combines three celebrated legacy events and crowns an overall category champions!
-
- The storied Kandahar is MRG’s modern version of a full mountain ski race. It rewards those who can ski gates as well as terrain and conditions on the trail.
- The Dash For Cash is a new event that will pit racers head to head on a dual panel course with pro jump.
- The Rockefeller Challenge is a test of fearlessness and speed where competitors tuck straight downhill and glide uphill to find the skier who goes the furthest.
Combine and register for all three events and save!
A valid lift ticket or season pass is required. Lift ticket not included in the entry fee.
Ages 10 & up as of 1/1/25. You must complete a registration for each family member who will be racing. Please log in below (if you are already in MRG’s system) or create a new account for each racer.
Disclaimer: Weather and conditions dependent. There are no refunds on the entry fee for any reason, including in the event of date change, cancellation, or inability to participate. We reserve the right to change or modify any of the perimeters of the race including but not limited to start time, date, location, course, finish and awards in the interest of event security.
