GMS Big Band Performing – Bring Your Dancing Shoes!

Green Mountain Swing, a 17-piece big band, is holding a concert and swing dance to raise funds to support the GMS Music Scholarship Fund. This event originated in the Mad River Valley, first at the Valley Players and then at The Big Picture Theater in the early 2010’s. The Scholarship Fund honors former music director, Shep Resnik, from Warren. Scholarships support music lessons, music camps and workshops for local middle and high school students.
“As well as supporting the Scholarship Fund, our playing provides us with the opportunity to continue to grow as musicians and, in the jazz tradition, to mentor next generations,” according to Pierre Swick, trombone player, formerly from Fayston, who has been in the band for two decades. Band members range from their teens and early twenties to their 80’s.
The band’s repertoire includes early swing through bop, funk and contemporary jazz, Latin, and vintage rock tunes, appealing to dancers and music lovers of all ages. While there, you can also visit the work of local artists at the new SEABA art gallery adjacent to the music venue.
