stewardMRV Volunteer Profile
Steward: Kathy Haskell
stewardMRV site: Joslin Memorial Library
What town do you reside in?
Waitsfield
What brought you to the Valley and how long have you been here?
It was 2001, Steve, my husband and I sat on Barclay Rappeport’s porch watching the sunset over the Greens and made our decision based on three things: we knew we wanted to live where we recreated, the view got us, and we had never skied Mad River Glen, that had to happen!
Where are you from?
I am from outside of Boston.
What do you love most about the valley?
The mountains and the community.
Why did you join stewardMRV?
To preserve the open spaces that over the years have become more popular which is wonderful, but it requires more involvement from the community to keep these places looking and feeling like you are the only one there.
What do you find most personally rewarding about being a steward?
When I look at the library park, I remember what condition it started from versus what it looks and feels like now. The space is inviting, and it’s being used and enjoyed. That matters! It’s a beautiful spot.
Have you had any inspiring or educational interactions with the public at your location, if yes, let us hear about it?
I have used the park for outdoor classes with my students and eating lunch.
What is your favorite story/find/moment being a steward?
While standing in line at the Three Mountain Cafe or when I am walking downtown and I hear visitors talking about our Valley with wonder and excitement, I know every small act contributes to these experiences.
What do you hope to see improve in the valley?
I support and would love to see the culminating vision of the Mad River Path Association on connecting Warren to Moretown with a public path.
