SUMMARY:1st Ever MRV - Discover Waterbury Combined Chamber Mixer
DESCRIPTION:Building Bridges\nThey said it would never happen—but the times\, they are a-changin’! At a time when there seems to be division everywhere we turn\, we are working to build as many bridges as possible. That includes an increasingly close partnership with our good neighbors at Discover Waterbury. \nOur two communities share more than a town line. We are connected by Route 100\, a regional economy and a common interest in encouraging visitors to experience everything this remarkable part of Vermont has to offer. By working together\, we can promote the region more effectively\, strengthen relationships among our businesses and create new opportunities for collaboration. \nTo celebrate that growing partnership\, the Mad River Valley Chamber and Discover Waterbury are joining forces for a very special social gathering. And what better place to meet than the magnificent Moose Meadow Lodge & Treehouse—located on the “neutral ground” of Duxbury\, Vermont\, affectionately known as De-Lux-Bury! \nOur hosts\, Willie and Greg\, will welcome us to their beautiful inn and grounds and serve a selection of delicious Filipino-inspired appetizers. If you have never visited Moose Meadow Lodge\, toured its famous treehouse or attended one of its summer concerts\, you are in for an absolute treat—especially with autumn arriving in the mountains. \nHarwood Union High School music students Eireann and Tarin will add to the evening with live vocals and acoustic guitar. The Duxbury Historical Society will join us as our featured nonprofit partner\, helping us celebrate the history and community connecting the Mad River Valley and Waterbury. \nBoth organizations are working to make this a memorable gathering\, so keep an eye out for additional details. We hope businesses and community members from throughout the region will join us\, make some new connections and help us continue building bridges. \nOne important example of the MRV–Discover Waterbury partnership is our shared effort to attract international travelers to Vermont’s Route 100 corridor. Learn more about that work and how the Mad River Valley is stepping into the international marketplace.

SUMMARY:MRV Chamber Board of Trustees Meeting
DESCRIPTION:Tuesday October 20th – 4 to 5:30 pm at the MRV Welcome Center \nAgenda \n\nBoard President Comments\nApprove July 15\, 2026 board meeting minutes\nElection of Board Officers for 2027 – see appendix below\nFinancial Report – see the final pages of the Management & Membership Report\nManagement & Membership Report\nOld Business\nSurveying Report Update – see appendix below\n\n\nNew Business\nDowntown Designation Status Update\nSuggestion Protolcal – see appendix below\n\nAPPENDIX \nSurveying Report Update\nI wanted to share an update on our survey initiative. I have developed an overall surveying strategy to establish an ongoing feedback process that will help the board and membership guide the Chamber’s future. The strategy proposes three types of surveys: \n\nChamber membership DRAFT survey: A recurring survey of current members and non-members to assess the Chamber’s value\, programs\, services\, and priorities. Please review and comment.\nBusiness wellbeing survey: A survey focused on the health and needs of our local business community\, coordinated with the timing of the MRV Planning District’s Community Wellbeing Survey. Franni Hoag fromn teh MRVPD and I will be meeting with the Vermont Chamber’s Kevin Chu to coordinate our local efforts with the state chamber’s.\nFocused surveys: Brief surveys addressing specific questions or emerging issues as needed.\n\nOur first priority is the Chamber membership survey. The draft includes separate paths for members and non-members\, with questions for former members about why they left. The goal is to gather candid feedback through neutral questions and establish a baseline we can track over time. \nBoard Officers and Open Seats \nBoard Officers \nSean Kramer – Chair\,  – 1824 House Inn\n_________ – Vice-Chair\, Executive Committee –\nEd Read          – Treasurer; Executive Committee – Mad River Distillers\n_________  – Secretary; Executive Committee  – \nBoard Members \n\nJohn Bleh – Sugarbush\nSean Kramer – Chair\,  – 1824 House Inn\nMimi Buttenheim – Mad River Distillers\nEd Read – Mad River Property Management\nSam Rosenberg – The Local\nMatt Lillard – Mad River Glen\nRoger Nishi – -Waitsfield & Champlain Valley Telecom\nAron Shea – Shea Property Services\nBrian Wray – Inklings Children’s Books\nJean Wry – Hyde Away\n_________ OPEN SEAT – Anna Nasset  Seat\n_________ OPEN SEAT – Rob Perry Seat\n\nHave an Idea for the Chamber?\n\nWe’re always interested in ideas that could strengthen our business community and the Mad River Valley. Before the Chamber decides whether and how to become involved\, we’d like to better understand the idea\, its potential impact\, and what would be required to make it successful.\n\nPlease answer the following questions. This is intended as a starting point for discussion and does not imply a commitment by the Chamber to undertake or fund the idea.\n\n1. What is your idea?\nPlease provide a brief description of what you are proposing.\n\n2. What problem\, need\, or opportunity does this idea address?\nWhat prompted the idea\, and why do you believe it is needed?\n\n3. Who would benefit from this idea?\nFor example: Chamber members\, specific types of businesses\, employees\, residents\, visitors\, or the broader Mad River Valley community.\n\n4. How does this idea support the Chamber’s mission or benefit the local business community?\nPlease describe the connection as you see it.\n\n5. What role do you envision the Chamber playing?\nFor example: leading the initiative\, partnering with another organization\, promoting it\, providing staff support\, providing funding\, connecting participants\, or simply endorsing the effort.\n\n6. Who else should be involved?\nAre there businesses\, community organizations\, municipalities\, nonprofits\, or individuals that would be natural partners? Have you already spoken with any of them?\n\n7. What resources would be needed to make this happen?\nConsider funding\, staff or volunteer time\, facilities\, marketing\, technology\, permits\, outside expertise\, or other resources.\n\n8. Who would take responsibility for moving the idea forward?\nWould you be willing to lead or actively participate in developing and implementing the idea? If so\, what role would you be willing to take?\n\n9. How would we know if the idea was successful?\nWhat outcome or measurable result would indicate that the initiative was worthwhile?\n\n10. Is this intended to be a one-time project or an ongoing Chamber initiative?\nIf ongoing\, how do you envision it being financially and operationally sustainable over time?\n\nAnything Else?\n\nPlease share any additional information\, examples from other communities\, estimated costs\, potential funding sources\, timelines\, or other details that would help us understand your proposal.\n\nThank you for bringing your idea forward.\n\nThe Chamber will use this information to determine whether the proposal aligns with its mission and priorities\, whether the Chamber is the appropriate organization to be involved\, and what level of involvement—if any—may make sense.
