Kindling For Good

Everyone appreciates good quality kindling to get the home fires burning and now you can get some while supporting a great cause too. The MRV Chamber has initiated a new way to raise much needed funds for the Mad River Valley Senior’s Meals on Wheels program with the purchase of pre-made boxes of kindling.  The kindling boxes can be picked up in the parking lot of Mad River Property Management/Vee’s Flowers (across from the Waitsfield Elementary School) anytime. They are stored in the roofed structures that are very obvious when you pull in.  There is a suggested donation of $10 but feel free to give what you can. If you prefer you can donate online and pick up the boxes of kindling at your convenience.

The kindling is high quality, hardwood that is cut to length by an anonymous good samaritan that visits the Mad River Valley every weekend.  He very much wants to remain”on the DL” and he approached the MRV Chamber with the concept. We were able to find a pick-up location and worked out the details. Interestingly, the boxes are protected from the elements because they are stored in the stewardMRV  shelters that house the portalets and trash receptacles in the summer at Lareau Swim Hole and on Bridge Street.  They are stored in the winter at this location anyway and work perfectly to make this program a reality, a true win-win. We’d like to thank MRV Chamber members, Ed Read from Mad River Property Management and Vee Lynch from Vee’s Flowers for helping to make this idea a reality.

It is exciting to come up with creative solutions like this to raise money for such a worthy cause.
