SUMMARY:Zero Celsius
DESCRIPTION:ZERO CELSIUS takes place at Mad Arts and Sugarbush Resort\, and gathers artists who explore the textures\, tensions\, and transformations of winter. \nFrom the hush of frozen landscapes to the volatility of a warming climate\, the exhibition reflects on how the cold season shapes—and is reshaped by—human and environmental relationships. \nBringing together sculpture\, installation\, sound\, photography\, and digital media\, ZERO CELSIUS examines winter as material\, concept\, and metaphor: crystalline\, fleeting\, and ecologically vital. The exhibition invites visitors to consider the fragility of snow in a changing world\, to reconnect with winter’s wonder and silence\, and to share their own stories and memories of a season both timeless and increasingly imperiled.

SUMMARY:Restoring Moses Whitcomb's "Monitor Barn" and Other Iconic Structures Built by Charles Miller (Yestermorrow Spring Speaker Series)
DESCRIPTION:Yestermorrow Spring 2026 Speaker Series\nHistoric Preservation: Meaning\, Memory\, and Stewardship \nRestoring Moses Whitcomb’s “Monitor Barn” and Other Iconic Structures Built by Charles Miller with Eliot Lothrop \nThe presentation will explore the land accumulation of the Whitcomb family during the second half of the 19th century\, culminating in Moses’ ownership- the peak of dairy farming at the farm. In 1901\, Moses had the East Monitor Barn built\, hiring the 36 year old Charles Miller\, from North Ferrisburgh\, to frame it. Born into a family of timber framers\, Miller had already built several monumental barns around Chittenden and Addison County. We’ll look at several of Miller’s other barns and explore pages of his work journals\, which have opened up some fascinating connections.\nWe’ll explore the restoration work that has happened on the barn since 2023 and spend some time focusing on items like the jacking\, timber repairs and slate work that have gone on as part of that work. Come with questions about historic barns or the work that goes into restoring them! \nThis talk is presented as part of our Spring 2026 Speaker Series. All talks are free and open to the public\, and take place Wednesday evenings from 6:30 – 8 pm. No registration required\, just drop by. Join us in person or online via livestream on our YouTube channel.

SUMMARY:Writing Workshop Series: Spring Equinox Inaugural Session
DESCRIPTION:Friends of the Mad River announces a new writers’ workshop series: an opportunity for our community to gather and cultivate an attentiveness to place through a ritualized creative writing practice. Each session will be guided by an author from the Vermont literary community\, who will come to the group with a meaningful passage of text which will then serve as a touchstone for an hour or so of independent writing time. \nThese sessions\, seven total\, will be scheduled around the rhythm of the natural seasons: beginning with the spring equinox and ending with the fall equinox. Guest authors will include Sydney Lea\, the former poet laureate of Vermont; Sean Prentiss\, author and professor at Norwich; Noah Warren\, creative writing professor at UVM; and many more. \nThese seven sessions will hopefully culminate in some kind of informal community “zine” or portfolio\, featuring our participants’ work over the course of the year. You can sign up for this event as a full “series\,” which is recommended\, or you can sign up for individual sessions as your schedule allows. No professional experience with creative writing is necessary: simply come with a pen and an open heart. \nPlease stay tuned for forthcoming dates and venues. The first session will be held at Moretown Library on March 20th\, and will feature Prof. Sean Prentiss\, author of Finding Abbey: A Search for Edward Abbey and His Hidden Desert Grave (2015). \nYou can register for this first event\, or for the entire series\, here: https://forms.gle/14PqtBCJ4UUqAqxF8 \nPlease consider supporting the work of our guest authors with a recommended $30 donation per session\, but don’t hesitate to come for free\, if you need to.

SUMMARY:3rd Annual Maple Beer and Chili Invitational
DESCRIPTION:It’s become our biggest event of the year- and for good reason. Our ode to the changing of seasons in Vermont\, we hold our Maple Beer and Chili Invitational annually on the Saturday of Vermont Maple Open House Weekend. A who’s who of breweries from the Northeast and eastern seaboard descend on Waitsfield\, Vermont to celebrate all things maple in the form of a beer fest and heated chili competition. The rules are simple. Every brewery brings a beer\, and a chili made with that beer as well as a required addition of maple syrup. Attendees get access to samples of every brewery’s chili and every brewery’s beer\, as well as specialty glassware\, stickers\, and entertainment. The crowd\, as well as a panel of expert judges\, will determine the winner of this year’s Golden Ladle\, Silver Spoon\, and Bronze Bean. \n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe breweries attending this year are: \n\n\n\n\n\n\nNew England Brewing Company (CT) \n\n\n\n\n\n\nRiver Roost (VT) \n\n\n\n\n\n\nPrison City (NY) \n\n\n\n\n\n\n14th Star (VT) \n\n\n\n\n\n\nKraemer & Kin (VT) \n\n\n\n\n\n\nFox Farm (CT) \n\n\n\n\n\n\nTilted Barn (RI) \n\n\n\n\n\n\nCounter Weight (CT) \n\n\n\n\n\n\nOcelot Brewing (VA) \n\n\n\n\n\n\nvon Trapp (VT) \n\n\n\n\n\n\nSchilling (NH) \n\n\n\n\n\n\nKane (NJ) \n\n\n\n\n\n\nCarton (NJ) \n\n\n\n\n\n\nZero Gravity (VT) \n\n\n\n\n\n\nMast Landing (ME) \n\n\n\n\n\n\nWeird Window (VT) \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nStick around after the invitational ends for an incredible post-event show from Vermont’s premier 90s rock band- LAZER DAD!
