SUMMARY:Unplowed Realities
DESCRIPTION:Unplowed Realities examines farms\, land\, and animals as interconnected systems of survival\, care\, and resilience at a time when small farmers face mounting economic and environmental pressures. \nThrough portraiture\, Joan O’Neal explores the animal gaze\, positioning the dairy cow as a subject rather than a resource. Her portraits invite us to consider empathy\, labor\, vulnerability\, and our relationships with other species. \nGeorge Shenk\, community activist\, experimental farmer\, writer\, and creative\, explores the human labor of sustaining small farms and the vital connections between land\, food\, animals\, and community. \nTogether\, their work asks us to reconsider how we value land\, labor\, food\, and life and reminds us that ecological health and community well-being are deeply connected.

SUMMARY:Waitsfield Farmer's Market
DESCRIPTION:We’re a unique collective of Vermont farmers\, makers\, bakers\, and shakers in the heart of the Mad River Valley.  \nEstablished in 1993\, the Waitsfield Farmer’s Market has been a meeting place for those who appreciate Vermont farmers and artisans for decades. Our market vendors are a carefully curated group of local Vermont businesses that provide the highest quality products to the market. Every Saturday\, rain or shine\, mid-May to mid-October\, you’ll find us on the Mad River Green! \nLocal produce\, plant starts\, maple\, honey\, flowers\, seedlings\, eggs\, meats\, cheeses\, fish\, crafts\, art\, clothes\, bread\, baked goods\, coffee\, spirits\, cider\, mead and prepared foods all by Vermonters. Every Saturday there is live entertainment. Visitors are welcome to bring their pets on leash. \nOur market is proud to offer many food benefit options for our community\, learn more about them below! \n3 Squares VT / SNAP \nThe Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) offers nutrition assistance to millions of eligible\, low-income individuals and families and provides economic benefits to communities. In fact\, SNAP is the largest program in the domestic hunger safety net. The Food and Nutrition Service (FNS) of the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) works with key stakeholders in every state to ensure that those eligible for nutrition assistance can make informed decisions about applying for the program and can access benefits. \nFarm to Family\nFarm to Family is a program funded by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA). These coupons are in denominations of $6.00 and helps individuals buy fresh fruits and vegetables\, locally grown from Vermont farms and at Farmers Markets. Look for vendors at our Market with the Farm to Family Program sign to accept your coupons. \nCrop Cash\nCrop Cash is a double-value coupon program that promotes the purchase of fresh fruits\, vegetables\, and herbs at farmers markets that accept 3SquaresVT/SNAP benefits. In essence\, Crop Cash is an incentive dollar that is earned for 3SquaresVT/SNAP purchases for use on the future purchase of fresh fruits\, vegetables\, herbs\, seeds\, and starts at the market. Coupons are marked specifically to each Market and available year round. NOFA-VT manages this program.

SUMMARY:Warren Village Cemetery Walk

As we travel\, we’ll come across centenarians\, millers\, sharpshooters\, bear wranglers\, and bridge builders. It will begin on the flat area near the town hall and traverse up the stairs (or path). Please bring good walking shoes and any assistive devices to help you navigate the grounds for one hour. SUMMARY:Warren NEW Time Capsule Burial
DESCRIPTION:The Warren Time Capsule Team is accepting items for the new community time capsule through August 29. Drop-off at the Town Clerk’s office\, Warren Municipal Building\, Monday through Friday\, 8:30 to 4:00. \nWe want as much of our community represented as possible. Your contribution could be a letter to future generations\, a photograph\, a small piece of art\, a meaningful object\, or something completely unexpected. You never know what randomness or obscurity will be the most interesting thing someone finds in 50 years. Keep it small enough to fit in a Ziploc bag and avoid food\, liquids\, batteries\, rubber\, newsprint\, wood\, tape\, leather\, and anything wet. \nPut your item in a sealed Ziploc bag with your name and contact info on the outside. \nThe capsule gets buried Saturday\, September 12 at 3:30 PM in Warren Village\, followed by a community picnic. The day also includes the Warren Village Cemetery Walk at 10 AM and the Vermont Jazz Ensemble on the pavilion at 5 PM. Come contribute\, come celebrate\, come be a part of the history.

SUMMARY:Arthur Schaller Collage series Variations in Blue
DESCRIPTION:Join us to celebrate Variations in Blue by Arthur Schaller in the lobby @ The Bigger Picture. Reception begins @5:30pm This exhibition features ten pieces that explore the color blue and its potential in creating atmospheric spatial settings. This is the first that Variations in Blue has been shown. \nArthur Schaller\nCollage series Variations in Blue\nThoughts on collage:\nFor decades I have been working in paper collage\, specifically\nwith four-color process printed matter\, ripped\, torn or surgically\nremoved from popular publications (though the source of the\nactual surfaces is unimportant.) This process is a means of\nexploring architectural/pictorial space as well as placing objects\nand forms in space. The representation itself resists alteration by\ndrawing\, painting or digital manipulation\, relying instead on\nassembling rich color and textural surfaces with multiple light\nsources found both in the printed material itself and in constructed\nlight\, shade and shadow. Much of the collage work is in a series\nformat where a concept and compositional format is established\nsetting in motion an ordered framework for theme and variational\nimprovisation. Currently twenty-two such series\, spanning from\n1990 to the present\, have been completed with approximately\nfour hundred collages.\nThis exhibition features ten pieces that explore the color blue and\nits potential in creating atmospheric spatial settings. This series is\npart of a larger group of seventy pieces in sets of ten\, each\nfocusing on a specific color: black\, white\, red\, green\, pink\, yellow\nand blue. This is the first that Variations in Blue has been shown.\nTime & Location \nSep 12\, 2026\, 5:30 PM – 6:30 PM\nBig Picture Theater & Cafe\, 48 Carroll Rd\, Waitsfield\, VT 05673\, USA

SUMMARY:Bike Maintenance 101
DESCRIPTION:For mountain and gravel bikes alike\, this hands-on group clinic will walk you through the basic practices of how to take good care in maintaining your bike. From best cleaning methods\, to chain lubrication and identifying when parts need to be replaced\, this class will leave you feeling more confident about your bike care. Registration is required. \nElisa Otter grew up in central Vermont\, spending playing sports\, exploring trails\, and learning through hands-on experiences outdoors. That curiosity eventually led her into education\, where she spent 10 years teaching kindergarten through 2nd grade and running a K–5 afterschool program. She also spent 5 years working in a bike shop developing strong mechanical skills and helping riders better understand their bikes. To learn more visit https://www.otterbikeworks.com/

SUMMARY:Climb It for Climate with POW: hike\, bike\, or run AND help Stoke the Vote!
DESCRIPTION:We are dialing it up early this Fall and so stoked to partner again with POW and these amazing POW affiliates – time to start tuning up your ski muscles AND your community mojo. \nThis two-fer opportunity – part of our growing Climb It for Climate series with Friends of the Mad River – is focused on mobilizing voters in NH with a focus on the environment and climate change. This is core to our organizations’ missions. Reminding folks of this critical issue ahead of the midterm elections will hopefully move the needle on having more congressional representatives in Washington who care about what we care about! \nMeet us at the Rec Hub/Welcome Center for a choose-your-own-adventure outing then keep the adrenaline going for a love fest at Lawsons to write post cards to our White Mountain neighbors. Green…White…Blue…Red – – color doesn’t matter for this event. It’s about coming together as a community for something really important\, and to make it fun! \nPlease register!\nhttps://pow.connectedcommunity.org/events/event-description?CalendarEventKey=62e896d5-a10e-4ddc-8989-019fafc4c493&CommunityKey=8500824e-2902-42f4-8451-019d40c1e8d8&Home=%2fevents%2fcalendar \nHope to see you there and please pass this along to friends and family!

SUMMARY:Mow Crew
DESCRIPTION:Mow some grass\, earn your pass! Mow crew is the best way to get an intimate look at all of the nooks and crannies of Stark Mountain\, burn some calories and make new ski buddies. At the end of the 10 days of work you’ll have earned some cash for your pocket and a full season’s pass for the upcoming winter. \nA little run down on how we mow our trails… We use hand scythes to cut the grass\, ferns and shrubs on the steepest slopes here at Mad River Glen. Most of the beginner and intermediate terrain is mowed with a tractor\, mow crew steps in to finish off the areas the tractor can’t go. We mow and move in a line shoulder-to-shoulder hiking up the trails as we go. It can be tough work but the camaraderie makes it so much fun! Truly\, it is rewarding and at the end of the 10 days\, you’ll have a full season ski pass and some cash in your pocket. Not only that but you will likely have learned something about the terrain you didn’t already know and you’ll have gained a couple of new ski buddies. \nThe day begins at 7:00 am and we mow until about 3:00 pm with many short breaks in between. A backpack with a hydration pack is highly recommended and you should also pack yourself enough food to get you through the day. There will be water stations along the route to refill your containers and likely a ride down on the chairlift at the end of the day to ease the knees. Most people wear pants and long sleeves to fend off bugs and protect them from the sun but a few hardy folks go shorts and tees\, everyone wears hiking boots – no exceptions. We will provide the scythe\, a pair of work gloves\, a sharpening stone/tools and water. \nIf you’re interested in joining the mow crew this fall please send an email to ski@madriverglen.com.
