SUMMARY:The Silent Type
DESCRIPTION:The Silent Type\nJune 5 – August 27
Reception: June 5\, 5:30–7:00 PM\nThis summer\, The Silent Type brings together artists and designers whose work explores the intersection of visual design\, natural systems\, and human culture. On view from June 5 through August 27\, the exhibition examines how patterns\, structures\, and processes found in nature are translated into typography\, sculpture\, projection\, materials\, and spatial interventions.\nThrough layered forms of communication—including text\, image\, and three-dimensional design—the exhibition invites viewers to consider how visual language shapes perception\, behavior\, and collective understanding. Both playful and intentional\, the works reveal the quiet ways design mediates our relationship with the natural world and with one another.\nFeatured artists include Tina Christensen\, Leslie Fry\, Michael Jager\, Susan Smereka\, and Elise Whittemore.\nAn opening reception will be held on June 5 from 5:30 to 7:00 PM. The public is invited to attend and experience an exhibition that reflects on the subtle dialogue between nature\, design\, and contemporary life.

SUMMARY:Silhouettes by Deborah O'Connor.
DESCRIPTION:The silhouette was displaced as the most popular form of portraiture by the invention of the camera around 1835. But a camera has never captured the “essence” of a person in the almost magical way that a silhouette does. Discover for yourself why parents today still seek out the few existing artists who practice this almost extinct art. \nAll ages are welcome \nIt’s amazing to watch as the silhouettes are cut freehand\, using paper and scissors as the only tool. In five minutes or less\, a profile portrait is created in exacting detail! Multiple layers of paper can be cut at once\, producing extra copies which sell for half price. These make great gifts for grandparents. The “original” silhouette is $ 30. Classic oval frames will be available starting at $20. Silhouettes can be framed individually or grouped. The artist\, Deborah O’Connor has been cutting silhouettes for fifty years. A Rhode Island native\, she has worked primarily in New England but as far away as Tokyo\, Disneyland\, Hawaii\, and various other states. \nSign up to ensure a sitting. Book one five minute spot for each person. 802-496-3864 Walk-ins accommodated as time allows.

SUMMARY:Wind Power: Vermont Leads
DESCRIPTION:Join Vermont Productions at The Big Picture as they return for another documentary debut. Screening Saturday\, June 13th @ 7pm Please RSVP to this free event. Donations accepted at the door. \nWIND POWER\nIt is relatively unknown that in 1941 in Vermont\, the first megawatt-size wind turbine on Grandpa’s Knob\, was connected to the local electrical grid. The 1.25-MW Smith-Putnam wind turbine is erected in Castletown\, Vermont. Incredibly\, it took over 40 years before this feat was once again accomplished. The documentary focuses on how this came about\, those involved\, how the turbine was developed and built\, and its impact on the future of power producing wind turbines

SUMMARY:Waitsfield Farmer's Market
DESCRIPTION:We’re a unique collective of Vermont farmers\, makers\, bakers\, and shakers in the heart of the Mad River Valley.  \nEstablished in 1993\, the Waitsfield Farmer’s Market has been a meeting place for those who appreciate Vermont farmers and artisans for decades. Our market vendors are a carefully curated group of local Vermont businesses that provide the highest quality products to the market. Every Saturday\, rain or shine\, mid-May to mid-October\, you’ll find us on the Mad River Green! \nLocal produce\, plant starts\, maple\, honey\, flowers\, seedlings\, eggs\, meats\, cheeses\, fish\, crafts\, art\, clothes\, bread\, baked goods\, coffee\, spirits\, cider\, mead and prepared foods all by Vermonters. Every Saturday there is live entertainment. Visitors are welcome to bring their pets on leash. \nOur market is proud to offer many food benefit options for our community\, learn more about them below! \n3 Squares VT / SNAP \nThe Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) offers nutrition assistance to millions of eligible\, low-income individuals and families and provides economic benefits to communities. In fact\, SNAP is the largest program in the domestic hunger safety net. The Food and Nutrition Service (FNS) of the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) works with key stakeholders in every state to ensure that those eligible for nutrition assistance can make informed decisions about applying for the program and can access benefits. \nFarm to Family\nFarm to Family is a program funded by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA). These coupons are in denominations of $6.00 and helps individuals buy fresh fruits and vegetables\, locally grown from Vermont farms and at Farmers Markets. Look for vendors at our Market with the Farm to Family Program sign to accept your coupons. \nCrop Cash\nCrop Cash is a double-value coupon program that promotes the purchase of fresh fruits\, vegetables\, and herbs at farmers markets that accept 3SquaresVT/SNAP benefits. In essence\, Crop Cash is an incentive dollar that is earned for 3SquaresVT/SNAP purchases for use on the future purchase of fresh fruits\, vegetables\, herbs\, seeds\, and starts at the market. Coupons are marked specifically to each Market and available year round. NOFA-VT manages this program.
