SUMMARY:Unplowed Realities
DESCRIPTION:Unplowed Realities examines farms\, land\, and animals as interconnected systems of survival\, care\, and resilience at a time when small farmers face mounting economic and environmental pressures. \nThrough portraiture\, Joan O’Neal explores the animal gaze\, positioning the dairy cow as a subject rather than a resource. Her portraits invite us to consider empathy\, labor\, vulnerability\, and our relationships with other species. \nGeorge Shenk\, community activist\, experimental farmer\, writer\, and creative\, explores the human labor of sustaining small farms and the vital connections between land\, food\, animals\, and community. \nTogether\, their work asks us to reconsider how we value land\, labor\, food\, and life and reminds us that ecological health and community well-being are deeply connected.

SUMMARY:Arthur Schaller Collage series Variations in Blue
DESCRIPTION:Join us to celebrate Variations in Blue by Arthur Schaller in the lobby @ The Bigger Picture. Reception begins @5:30pm This exhibition features ten pieces that explore the color blue and its potential in creating atmospheric spatial settings. This is the first that Variations in Blue has been shown. \nArthur Schaller\nCollage series Variations in Blue\nThoughts on collage:\nFor decades I have been working in paper collage\, specifically\nwith four-color process printed matter\, ripped\, torn or surgically\nremoved from popular publications (though the source of the\nactual surfaces is unimportant.) This process is a means of\nexploring architectural/pictorial space as well as placing objects\nand forms in space. The representation itself resists alteration by\ndrawing\, painting or digital manipulation\, relying instead on\nassembling rich color and textural surfaces with multiple light\nsources found both in the printed material itself and in constructed\nlight\, shade and shadow. Much of the collage work is in a series\nformat where a concept and compositional format is established\nsetting in motion an ordered framework for theme and variational\nimprovisation. Currently twenty-two such series\, spanning from\n1990 to the present\, have been completed with approximately\nfour hundred collages.\nThis exhibition features ten pieces that explore the color blue and\nits potential in creating atmospheric spatial settings. This series is\npart of a larger group of seventy pieces in sets of ten\, each\nfocusing on a specific color: black\, white\, red\, green\, pink\, yellow\nand blue. This is the first that Variations in Blue has been shown.\nTime & Location \nSep 12\, 2026\, 5:30 PM – 6:30 PM\nBig Picture Theater & Cafe\, 48 Carroll Rd\, Waitsfield\, VT 05673\, USA

SUMMARY:Gone Guys Film Screening & Discussion
DESCRIPTION:Come to the Moretown library for a screening of this 45 minute documentary with a discussion facilitated by Jeremy Silcox\, MSW\, LICSW from Hannah’s House. \nOver the past fifty years\, boys and young men have steadily disengaged from school\, work\, and broader society. They’re falling behind academically\, struggling with loneliness and isolation\, and facing rising rates of substance abuse and suicide. \nGone Guys\, a 45-minute documentary\, draws on the influential work of Richard V. Reeves’ Of Boys and Men\, illuminating these challenges through powerful data and compelling personal stories. Many have experienced these issues first-hand\, but it can be difficult to talk about them. It’s not an either-or choice: caring more about boys and men does not mean caring less about women and girls. \nSet in rural Vermont\, the film brings national data to life with engaging animation accompanying lived experience featuring young men\, educators\, mentors\, and trailblazing programs that are working to re-engage boys and young men in their communities and reshape their futures.
