SUMMARY:The Silent Type
DESCRIPTION:The Silent Type\nJune 5 – August 27
Reception: June 5\, 5:30–7:00 PM\nThis summer\, The Silent Type brings together artists and designers whose work explores the intersection of visual design\, natural systems\, and human culture. On view from June 5 through August 27\, the exhibition examines how patterns\, structures\, and processes found in nature are translated into typography\, sculpture\, projection\, materials\, and spatial interventions.\nThrough layered forms of communication—including text\, image\, and three-dimensional design—the exhibition invites viewers to consider how visual language shapes perception\, behavior\, and collective understanding. Both playful and intentional\, the works reveal the quiet ways design mediates our relationship with the natural world and with one another.\nFeatured artists include Tina Christensen\, Leslie Fry\, Michael Jager\, Susan Smereka\, and Elise Whittemore.\nAn opening reception will be held on June 5 from 5:30 to 7:00 PM. The public is invited to attend and experience an exhibition that reflects on the subtle dialogue between nature\, design\, and contemporary life.

SUMMARY:Friday Night Show: Morality Demonology at B&P
DESCRIPTION:Puppet show! Puppet show! Bread & Puppet will present an indoor performance each Friday this summer in the Paper Maché Cathedral. The show will premiere in June and continue to evolve over the course of the summer. \nAfter the show Bread & Puppet will serve its famous sourdough rye bread with aioli\, and Bread & Puppet’s “Cheap Art” – books\, posters\, postcards\, pamphlets and banners from the Bread & Puppet Press – will be for sale. \nOf the show\, director Peter Schuman tells us that\, “Puppeteers are in a state of high alert. The commanders-in-chief of reality are not only assassinating truth but have declared war on the innocent everything of the world. Morality demons claim divine origin\, govern the population with unidentified power\, and oppress shamelessly and unaccountably with history-honored illegality. Under and oversized puppets now battle the insufferable demons and the tricks of political mayhem. The world\, unaware of its upside-down situation\, must be confronted!”

SUMMARY:The Upside Down World Circus at Bread & Puppet
DESCRIPTION:“Is it or is it not?\nAm I asleep or am I awake?\nAm I a cockroach or am I a me? \nPossibilitarians! We must demonstrate humanity’s upside-down situation in the face of the government’s depraved falsehoods. Luxury silence and despair must be replaced by revolt orchestras that radically oppose the radically wrong system. \nIt is time to unforget the revolution-in-progress and aim for the evermore on the universe’s shore.” \nThe one and only Bread & Puppet Circus is back to confront our upside-down situation! With stilt dancers\, paper maché beasts of all sizes\, and a riotous brass band\, The Upside Down World Circus is an urgent spectacle of protest and celebration. Following the circus\, starting around 4:30pm\, a massive pageant will commence on the field. Side shows before the circus. \nAfter each show Bread & Puppet will serve its famous sourdough rye bread with aioli\, and “Cheap Art” – books\, posters\, postcards\, pamphlets and banners from the Bread & Puppet Press – will be for sale. \nTickets to summer shows on the Bread & Puppet farm are $15\, with no one turned away for lack of funds. Admission by donation upon arrival for kids 12 and under.

SUMMARY:Mad River Distillers 15th Anniversary Bash Featuring The Steepwater Band and Jaded Ravins
DESCRIPTION:Mad River Distillers 15th Anniversary Bash featuring Chicago rock legends The Steepwater Band and their friends\, Vermont’s own Americana superstars Jaded Ravins! Prepare for a fantastic night of original music with drink specials\, including the debut of MRD’s new canned cocktails! \nThe Steepwater Band is a Chicago-based rock trio renowned for its powerful\, guitar-driven sound that draws deeply from the wells of classic rock\, blues\, and Americana. Since forming in the late 1990s\, the band has built a devoted following through nine albums\, a relentless touring schedule that has taken them to clubs\, theaters\, and festivals across the United States and Europe. Their music blends gritty riffs\, melodic songwriting\, and road-weary authenticity\, earning praise for both its timeless feel and electrifying live performances. With influences ranging from The Rolling Stones and Muddy Waters to The Black Crowes and Gram Parsons\, The Steepwater Band delivers a sound that is both familiar and distinctly their own\, combining road-tested musicianship with the energy and spirit of rock. \nJaded Ravins is the Vermont-based Americana duo of Kelly Ravin and Halle Jade\, who began performing together in 2017. Combining Kelly’s soulful\, powerful vocals with Halle’s rich harmonies\, the pair has drawn comparisons to a modern-day Johnny and June Carter Cash while crafting a sound that blends Americana\, country rock\, and roots music. Their songs have been praised for their heartfelt storytelling\, gritty authenticity\, and warm vocal chemistry\, balancing driving country-rock energy with lush ambient washes. Performing everywhere from backcountry bars in New England to stages in Nashville\, Jaded Ravins deliver passionate\, engaging performances that connect deeply with the soul. \nThis energetic night of original music will take place at Afterthoughts in Waitsfield\, at the corner of Rt 17 and Rt 100 and is presented by Mad River Distillers\, Valley Meade Dispensary\, and The 1824 House.
