Silhouettes by Deborah O’Connor.

June 13 @ 10:00 am - June 14 @ 2:00 pm

The silhouette was displaced as the most popular form of portraiture by the invention of the camera around 1835. But a camera has never captured the “essence” of a person in the almost magical way that a silhouette does. Discover for yourself why parents today still seek out the few existing artists who practice this almost extinct art.

All ages are welcome

It’s amazing to watch as the silhouettes are cut freehand, using paper and scissors as the only tool. In five minutes or less, a profile portrait is created in exacting detail! Multiple layers of paper can be cut at once, producing extra copies which sell for half price. These make great gifts for grandparents. The “original” silhouette is $ 30. Classic oval frames will be available starting at $20. Silhouettes can be framed individually or grouped. The artist, Deborah O’Connor has been cutting silhouettes for fifty years. A Rhode Island native, she has worked primarily in New England but as far away as Tokyo, Disneyland, Hawaii, and various other states.
